N.Z Falcon hunting a Rabbit.
All the shots below were taken over a one hour period, in a pleasant part of Fiordland National Park.
To begin with the Falcon seemed to be just hanging round to see what I was up to, when out of the blue a rabbit jumped out from under a log and the falcon swooped on it in a flash.

This shot shows a small island in between branches of a river where the rabbit was being chased.
It is right in the middle of the hunting territory of the falcon below.

What is this person doing in my territory and blocking my dive zone?
The rabbit has already run and hidden under these logs, so he flew over to have a closer inspection.

Moving into a more strategic position.

Wings out for a smooth landing.
The falcon in full action diving on the rabbit.
You can just make out the rabbits right hind leg and fluffy white tail.
This shot has ended up focused on the midground, but I was just happy to catch a glimpse of the action, as it happened in a 'lightnings flash'.

A failed mission, but doing a closer inspection of the rabbits hideout.
Still on the look out.

The frustration is beginning to show.
Sailing away, and hopefully better luck later in the day.
That rabbit will keep for another time.
