It is not shown well in this photo but the tide was well out and the men swam at least 100meters less than the females 2 1/2 hours earlier.

Richard Stannard was first out of T1.
|
Terenzo Bozzone about to leap onto his seat.
Wish I captured the next split second; he let go of his handle bars and leaped into the air to land on the seat. Have never seen someone mount a bike like this and it was very effective.

Disapointed N.Z crowd still wondering about Bevan Docherty's whereabouts.

Javier Gomez leading from the front and notholding back from doing the hard work.

The Canadian athletes are looking well prepared early in the season.

Bevan Docherty pulled out during the swim due to fatigue.
Not surprising given he was racing hard to place 4th only a week earlier in Mooloolaba.
|
|
Paul Tichelaar had another great race and looks like a strong contender this year.
|
|
The first group of runners only several 100meters from T2.
Gomez had over a minute to make up on these front runners and put in a scorching sub 30mins run to take it out comfortably.

Andrew Johns showing that experience helps.
This course has provided the more experienced with some good racing results such as Rina Hill in 2006.

Two from two starts in 2008. Incredible.
I know it is not a sharp image. My shutter speed was still on slow due to some of the earlier zoom action shots.
